As the spring semester is in your view as a 1st year college student no doubt your success and failures are weighing heavy on you. With Spring semester ahead of you several thoughts for you.
1. Make sure you adjust your schedule to something you can live with and succeed with, do not worry on credit hours but your ability to study, learn and do well.
12 credits is fine, 15 credits fine as long as you can do well if not cut back to 12 and get the help you need, if you screwed up because you were lost then maybe you need a lower course as a foundation before retaking it.
2. Cramming is always a bad idea, even if it worked ok this semester, learn to revise everyday and 6 days a week with one off. This is the way 90% of Medical students study who succeed, and to get those A's in undergrad you will need to do this most times.
3. Summer, many premeds use summer for two things:
Volunteering hours
Rest
so not fall into the "Time trap" I have to take a course in the summer because of time, these college courses are very condensed and missing topics and well, many get C's in them and just pass. You need to rest and do well, I suggest you volunteer during summer and shadow.
Good Luck all
