The Parking Ticket is Immortal

Yes fellow physicians the Parking ticket you received while in clerkships or by mistake lives forever. It will not need a witness, it does not need proof, like a deadly virus you acquired it and it will get worse when ignored.

A week ago out of the blue I got a letter demanding payment for a parking ticket from a state I have not been to since 1997. The ticket was from last year.

So I called then faxed proof and if lucky it will go away.

But I decided to do research. What turned up is an Ugly situation that can happen.

You live in State A you go to state B and bam get a parking ticket. You think LOL I don't live here who cares I wont pay.

Yes you will pay they will get you.

Apparently a Parking ticket is like MURDER in most states. The offense is so bad that there is no statute of limitations. The Parking authority has so much power as to ruin your credit and ability to drive............and this is how:

1. Post it on the credit report as a bad debt.
2. Report it to your state and then your title and registration cannot be renewed for any vehicle you own.
3. Prohibit you from renewing your driving license.
4. Arrest you next time you show up in their state since ignoring a parking ticket in some states for an amount of time elevates the crime to a warrant.
5. Boot your car next time parking in that state, years later when you do not expect it.

Extortion?
Unfair?
Punishment does not fit crime?
Conviction without trial?

YES all of this.

To top it off after months and years of not paying a 15 or 20 dollar ticket it could cost you thousands in fines and fees to take care of it.

Lesson? Pay the current tickets and fight to change the ticket laws with your state.

Knowledge is power and know you must pay that Parking
