USMLE step one

Hi, been awhile since I posted.

I'm busy studying for my next board exam and I'm working.

I've been writing and editing USMLE step one questions.

If you ever have the pleasure to go through my questions they will be tough!

Step one is tough!

An average question is now very long

Ex.

A 23 year old Caucasian woman presents to your office for a health maintenance examination. She admits to having occasional headaches, but otherwise has no complaints. Review of systems is notable for irregular menses. She smokes one pack of cigarettes per day and consumes alcohol a few times per month. Her BMI is 25.6 kg/m2. Physical exam reveals enlarged and firm parotid glands bilaterally. Examination of her teeth reveals eroded enamel. The remainder of her exam, including a pelvic exam, is unremarkable. Which of the following is the most likely cause of this patient’s condition?

This example is a medium length there are longer ones. The days of short questions are over. The USMLE has become a game of cleaver questions and diseases you will be lucky to ever see in your lifetime.

Even though you need to know the day to day diseases and health care you are expected to know diseases that are 1 to 3% or less so 97 to 99% of the patients will have the common problems.

So you may not have been taught these diseases in medical school, its only 2 years, there is not enough time to teach you the 97% of what you need to know with the 1 to 3% it would be nice to know, yet this exam is testing that 1-3%.

People say why do I need a review? Simple to learn the material you yet do not know.

First aid for USMLE step one is a great guide to the material you will need to know for step one.

Use it in your preparation, I use it as a guide for questions myself.
