Many US students go over seas for medical school.
No matter Europe or Caribbean all are the same, they are FMG/IMG's.
This makes them less competitive for residencies.
Its hard to understand since we all take the same USMLE.
Caribbean students spend 2 years of clinical and class time in the USA just like the US grads.
Yet biases run rampant in some circles and Caribbean grads have a tougher time getting a residency.
Caribbean grad like me:
2 years on the island studying Basic science
Shelf exams
Review course
USMLE step 1 Passed
2 years in CLinicals, US Hospitals and US Doctors teaching the Caribbean and US students.
2 years of the same lectures and projects with the US students.
USMLE step 2.
Why the big deal about Basic science?
WHY?
Give us a chance!
